The funny thing is, though, that a whole lot of Wodehouse's canon pairings have something like that balance. One partner who's dreamy or impractical, and one who steers him (the impractical one's nearly always the boy) and makes sure things go their way. God only knows what this says about his own marriage/close friendships/self-esteem, but that seems to be, rightly or wrongly, his idea of how partnerships work. Just look at "Bill."
