And here is a continuation of the Pirate AU which has popped up here a few times.  This particular fic I wrote for Yuletide 2007, and now that the authors have been revealed, of course, I can now post it here!  My sincerest hopes that you all enjoy.

Title: A Question of Authority

Author: Culumacilinte

Pairing: Jeeves/Bertie

Rating: A light R, let’s say
Summary: Bertie has been co-captain of the Junior Ganymede with the Dread Pirate Jeeves for several weeks when he does something which causes Jeeves to question his loyalty.

Disclaimer: The concept for this AU is not mine- rather, it belongs to [info]woffproff and ink_and_imp. This is my idea for a potential follow-up for what they have already written and/or drawn. Furthermore, Jeeves and Bertie are the property of the dear deceased Plum, and of the massively talented Messrs. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.
Author's Note: The quote Bertie refers to at the end is one by Winston Churchill: `Do not talk to me about the Naval tradition; it is nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash.' I am well aware that Churchill was born long after the golden age of piracy, and that there is therefore no way Bertie could possibly quote him, but I felt it was an appropriate quote, so you'll forgive me any historical inaccuracies.

Also, massive, massive thanks to my brilliant friend and beta-reader, [info]earlwyn, who kicked me until this story shaped up properly.

I am sorry to re-open this subject again, but I need the community's thoughts on my reasoning. If anyone sees something that is against canon or a hole in my logic or has a different reasoning, please share.

I would love to have Jeeves be the same age as Bertie. Simply because he would have a better chance of being there with Bertie when Bertie is 70 years old. It seems canon enough but only barely. A younger Jeeves is supported by the statement that Jeeves was in his middle 40s in a story that took place after WWII.  If Jeeves was 24 in 1924 then at the end of the WWII, he would be 46. Allowing that the story's events took place in 1947, Jeeves would be {just barely} in his mid-forties{getting close to late 40s.} It's difficult to see this as correct because Ring for Jeeves appears to take place several years after WWII which would make Jeeves closer to 50 than mid-forties. The reason I start at 1924 is mostly personal preference. I don't want Bertie serving in WWI. I believe there are good reasons for me to feel he did not. He never mentions even the slightest reference to doing so. And the Bertie Wooster of the early stories does not seem to me to be someone who had seen battle. If Bertie and Jeeves were both 24 in 1924 then it is possible that Bertie being in school and of the upper social class, he might have just managed to not be called up. Jeeves was probably already working before the Great War. He mentions working in a girls' school and seems to be a teen at the time. Therefore, he could possibly have served in the war as he says he did. One could make Jeeves and Wooster younger than 24 in 1924, but too much younger and Jeeves could not have served. Making them a little older increases the chances that Bertie would have had to serve in WWI. So I use 1924 as a base for their ages.

Now here comes the trouble with making Jeeves's age the same as Bertie's. The problem concerns the story, "The Rummy Affair of Old Biffy." It's one of the earlier stories, published in 1924. I feel it took place in the first year or two of Jeeves's service to Bertie.  I conclude this by comparing it to one of the last stories, Jeeves and The Tie that Binds. One reads past only a few pages in Jeeves and The Tie That Binds before the reader reaches the place where the two are disagreeing. Bertie says at one point that angry passions were rising. This is actually an indicator of a good relationship between them. Jeeves is not manipulating Bertie, he is very openly disagreeing with Bertie.  He doesn't appear to be being dishonest at any point, either, even correcting Bertie, when tactfully not doing so might have been wiser. Bertie does not go out and buy something Jeeves would dislike in this story.  Jeeves responds as an equal to Bertie and Bertie treats him as one. This trend of openness between them begins in The Code of the Woosters also one of the later written stories. In "The Rummy Affair of Old Biffy" Jeeves refuses to tell Bertie why he won't help Biffy. Jeeves is very in the"I'm only a servant" mode. He doesn't mention that Mabel is his niece until he has to in order to answer Bertie's question at the end of the story. This is not at all like their relationship in the last books.  In "The Rummy Affair of Old Biffy" Jeeves has a niece. Now putting Jeeves's age at 24 or 25 or 26, and the niece's age at 20{she has to be old enough to marry}, the problem with a young Jeeves begins. If Jeeves's sister is in her 20s, she couldn't possibly have a child that is 20. So in order for Jeeves to be as young as Bertie, his sister would have to be at least in her 40s, twenty years older than Jeeves. That's quite a gap, but not an impossible one. It seems unlikely, though. I don't feel the story occurs later then those first years, but if you move Jeeves's age to 30 making him 4 or 5 years older than Bertie, you still have Jeeves being an Uncle at 10 or so, and Jeeves's sister being 10 to 15 years older. Still unusual but probably not as unlikely. But that means that after WWII, Jeeves would have been at least 50-not in his mid-forties.

Anyone have a way out of this circle?

To those that read my story, is there anyone who definitely does not want Jeeves a certain age? For example, more than eight years older than Bertie?

As a related question,  does Wodehouse ever say what month Jeeves's birthday is in?

Hello all! DarkEternal09 here. I'm new to Jeeves&Wooster and this community (though I knew immediately that Jeeves and Wooster were so a couple)

I've got many fic ideas floating around in my head (let's see if I actually write anything) and have throughly enjoyed reading the various fics and seeing the various art here. the expressions of love between Jeeves and Wooster have been captured winderfully by many people in this community.

Speaking about the love/relationship of Jooster, I have a quick question for you all:

I just finished watching Jeeves the Matchmaker and found it odd that he said he was engaged....now, don't get me wrong. Jeeves is a great guy and anyone, man or woman, would be lucky to have him *every time I see Jeeves (Stephen Fry) on the screen I want to huggle him*
However, since I am a firm Jooster, I found it a bit rummy when he said he was engaged not once, but twice.

Now, I know I need to read the books (got a whole bunch today) but someone PLEASE tell me he never got married. I mean, he's totally devoted to Wooster (and in each episode there are certain parts that just BEG for fanfiction to be written about them) hence finding it very rummy that he was engaged. (Personally, I think he said this just to hurt/annoy Wooster when Bertie said he wanted kids and decided to finally marry, but then again I was trying to justify it in a way that would keep the Jooster pair together)

thoughts? answers? questions?

thanks so much!
