I found the VHS tape of the first and second episodes of Jeeves & Wooster as it aired on PBS' Masterpiece Theater. It includes two "behind-the-scenes" (or "on the set") interview clips with Fry and Laurie. In the first, they're asked about Jeeves and how Wodehouse wrote about his movements from room to room (eg, "shimmered"). The actors agreed that Stephen was unable to do this even with drama school but that Al Pacino would possibly pull off a good "shimmer." :)

It's the second clip that's more delightful. They ask Hugh what is it about Stephen that annoys him -- at which point Stephen starts blowing in his ear. He says "never hand him the wine list at a restaurant" because Fry always orders the most expensive bottle. Then he refers to Stephen as something like "an all-around good chap" (I can't recall the exact words; I may have to watch it again and get a transcript) which sets off Stephen in a rant about Hugh being so dull (like the brown suit he's wearing) and unable to come up with more descriptive words (and he gives a few). But then he proclaims quite passionately, "I LOVE this man! And I don't mean 'I love him' in the respect that 'I like him' -- I LOVE HIM!"

Hugh appears to be blushing at this; he smiles and says that Stephen "bruises you, then mends you." To which Stephen agrees cheerfully that he is indeed "a bruisy-mendy thing."

And if I can ever figure out how to get something to copy from my VHS player to my PC, I will share these clips with you all.
