Fic help, please!

There are a few things I need to finish the last part of my fic. Since I'm not nearly as well-read or adept at Google-fu as you lovely ppl, I thought I'd ask what you would use in these sitchs:

1. Jeeves quotes something loving/adoring to Bertie as they, um, bask in the afterglow (more like: lay in exhausted stupor). Any suggestions?

2. Bertie says: ‘You were on top of me in [an instant], still fully clothed.’ 'Two shakes of a ducks tail' is a bit long. What Bertieism / flapper slang would you use here for 'an instant'? Answered! Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] thebirdmachine and [livejournal.com profile] bertiebwriting !

3. What pet name (aside from dream-rabbit) do you think Bertie would use for Jeeves?

"Two shakes" would be an acceptable abbreviation of your slightly-long expression.

Or you could say "in the t. of an e."

Sorry, I'm slow today.
"in the t. of an e."

t= ?
e= ?

Elaborate for the kids in the mentally negligible seats, please?

"twinkling of an eye".

Sounds a bit more Bertie-ish when you shorten it to just the letters, was my thinking.

Oh! No, it's great, I'm just having a dopey day, I guess.
*grin* Bertie-ish, indeed.

Don't forget, though, that in canon he always establishes what the shortened letters will stand for a line or two before using them, unless they're very inferable from context ("I sat down to breakfast, and over the b. and e..." "Jeeves handed my my drink, and while contemplating the g. and t....")

True, indeed.

1. How about "my love" or "beloved."

[identity profile] princesshannah4.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking "old top" for #3 for some odd reason...

[identity profile] closetofheroes.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I'd do 'in a flash'. I associate 'in a jiffy' with something more practical, such as 'I'll be there in a jiffy' or 'I'll have it for you in a jiffy', rather than just indicating speed of movement.

I don't think Bertie would actually say 'dream rabbit'. But having said that, I have nothing else to suggest.

Oh goodness me, I don't even have any decent suggestions. I just want to know where your icon is from! I am looking for art very much in that vein for my walls, and I was wondering if it's from a painting or some such. Thanks much!

That's [livejournal.com profile] innocentsmith's icon made from, I guess, this (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0517405385.01.LZZZZZZZ.gif) book cover. No idea about the artist, though.

Oh, so it is actually J&W! Even better... I shall have to look into this.

If you want period art, here are some (http://www.internationalposter.com/search-results.aspx?keywords=art%20deco&minHeight=min&maxHeight=max&minWidth=min&maxWidth=max&measurementType=inches) links (http://www.art-deco-prints-and-posters.com/browse.asp?id=Prints+and+Pochoirs&offset=0) that might have what you're looking for. They're kind of expensive, but if you know titles/artists' names you can probably find cheaper prints at art.com or somewhere like that. Or you could print something from here (http://www.flickr.com/groups/jazzage/pool/) off your computer.

[identity profile] georgeodowd.livejournal.com 2009-05-08 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh heavens, this is perfect! I knew you would have wonderful suggestions. :)

Some more stuff for you. I seem to recall you saying a while back that you were searching for slashy-looking stuff? I found a bunch yesterday while I was browsing the NYPL Digital Gallery, which you can buy prints from. These (http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchresult.cfm?keyword=1910s) two (http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchresult.cfm?keyword=1920s) galleries had the most results. The 1930s gallery didn’t have much but I thought this (http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/dgkeysearchdetail.cfm?trg=1&strucID=1090455&imageID=1600624&total=287&num=160&word=1930s&s=1&notword=&d=&c=&f=&k=0&lWord=&lField=&sScope=&sLevel=&sLabel=&imgs=20&pos=175&e=w) picture was nicely slashy. ;D

[identity profile] georgeodowd.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh goodness me, you are fantastic! Yes, yes, yes! This is just what I was looking for! :D

for #1

[identity profile] seularen.livejournal.com 2009-05-07 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Here's a bit from Percy Bysshe Shelley. I'm quoting the whole thing so you know the context.

The day passed thus: at night, methought in dream
A shape of speechless beauty did appear:
It stood like light on a careering stream
Of golden clouds which shook the atmosphere;--
A winged youth, his radiant brow did wear
The Morning Star: a wild dissolving bliss
Over my frame he breathed, approaching near,
And bent his eyes of kindling tenderness
Near mine, and on my lips impressed a lingering kiss,--

(XLII, The Revolt of Islam)

It just super reminds me of something Jeeves would associate with Bertie. Donno how quotable it is, though.

Also, everyone and their mother uses Spinoza in their fic, but this is a really great line:

“All happiness or unhappiness solely depends upon the quality of the object to which we are attached by love.”

Perfect for Jeeves and Bertie.

I suck with poetry, but you might find something in "Leaves of Grass" by Walt Whitman: http://emotionalliteracyeducation.com/classic_books_online/lvgrs10.htm

3. What pet name (aside from dream-rabbit) do you think Bertie would use for Jeeves?

Personally I think "dream rabbit" is right out. :)

I think I had him use something like "my Paragon," and I could see him using something a little over the top with Greek connotations, like "my Adonis" or "the Damon to my Pythias" as he always refers to Jeeves as a paragon and a bronzed Adonis in the stories. I still insist that he would call someone "Darling," I'm absolutely positive he does in one of the stories.

It may be a bit of a corny suggestion, but what I'm saying is primarily a nickname for the most intimate of moments. If it's Bertie frigging Jeeves, Bertie could call Jeeves something along the lines of a cocoon.

[identity profile] amethystaura.livejournal.com 2009-05-11 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, lemme explain. Basically Bertie's inside Jeeves & Jeeves feels wonderful around him, hence the 'cocoon'. :->
