I have now officially become obsessed with novelty undergarments of the period, as have Jeeves, Bertie and Sir Roderick.  Sadly, Jeeves has some disturbing symptoms in the next installment of the Glossop Cure

Holy moly, the most basic of those razors would be worth about $120 today, according to an inflation calculator I just found. The fancy sets come out to about $1,190.50. That's insane! If that was the going price for safety razors back in the day, maybe that's the real reason Jeeves got so fussy when Bertie neglected to use his.

Agreed that the fancy sets seem like a lot... however, just think of how much you'd save if you did not have to pay the barber or valet to shave you with a straight razor... The basic razor would pay for itself in a less than a year...and I imagine that the people of the ton would have had more expensive barbers? Or is this all rot?

But surely you would want your valet to shave you...
It probably is way too much for a razor, but I think I would buy anything that the man in the ad suggested. I really can't think at all in the presence of that illustration.

In cases like this, too much thinking would be unforgivable. I think, though, that ll those poor slobs who hadn't a Jeeves might have wanted to trade in the clump-footed, tea sloshing model for a safety razor... what if they nicked the tender skin, what?

I was delighted to see that, in the original Bertie-Grows-a-Mustache-and-Jeeves-Flips-Out story (the title escapes me right now), Bertie asks Jeeves to shave the mustache off of him at the end. Too bad they left that little detail out of the TV version.

And suddenly, just like that, the word philtrum is being all dirty up in my brain. Probably because my brain is confusing it with frenulum. I think we need some (more) shaving porn in this delightful community!
