So...Jeeves and Handsome Black Elevator Man.

There must be fic, right? Why isn't there fic? I cannot be the only person who thinks their knowing looks exchanged imply SEX SEX SEX.

LOL. Oddly enough, it did cross my mind...

...Belgium. Now I want to read something.

I just went looking for a clip on YouTube, and oh my! He is quite handsome.
I third this desire for fic wholeheartedly.

That man is so adorable, especially when he tried on that cowboy hat. Hey, if Bertie was off on that ghastly train trip, why shouldn't Jeeves get up to something?

[identity profile] notchka88.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
The actor in the third series was very good looking. He needs someone and fic. Hmmm, Rocky Todd anyone?

[identity profile] pipariperho.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Seconded. That would be cute, I think.

Oooh, Thirded!
Elevator chappie and Rocky? Hee hee hee!

Who wants a plotbunny?

[identity profile] pipariperho.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, wouldn't it be fun if this elevator guy and Rocky helped Jeeves and Bertie together? Like they are somewhere doing... *cough* something and there is an empty elevator and Bertie and Jeeves go in and then they stuck between the floors? Cliche? Who cares?

I like the way you think. :)

I was thinking it'd be cool if he were part of the Jazz scene, a musician in a band or something.

[identity profile] eleanor-ariail.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
See, I've been seeing those looks, and thinking more that he's just got his slash goggles firmly in place. Sort of a "Yeah, I see what you're all about with your *cough*Young Master*cough*. Mmm-hmm."

But yes, he and his expressions have been my favorite part of the New York episodes.

[identity profile] notchka88.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I figured too. A kind of, "I understand the nature of your relationship."

[identity profile] queen-fiend.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly my thoughts, lol. And I love his "mmm-hmmm's!" :D

Oh, my, yes. I think you're right!

[identity profile] eleanor-ariail.livejournal.com 2009-05-04 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, yes, I could see that too. Any way to get more Jeeves-love is always good for me!

[identity profile] feanix.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
He's quite the looker...I thought though, when I watched the New York episodes, that perhaps he and Jeeves were just...On the same wavelength, as it were. Kindred spirits if you like.

Although, I wouldn't say no to a scene between him and Jeeves doing something naughty in the lift ;)

Lift!Porn? We need cracky lift!Porn, I think.

His name is Mr. Coneybear, and no, I never saw him and Jeeves as up to anything, personally, but I guess I wouldn't object. Somehow I thought he was married, and that Jeeves mentioned having had dinner with him and his wife in one of the stories, but maybe that was something I made up. They do seem to be on a wavelength.

[identity profile] storyfan.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if Jeeves had dinner with the man and his wife. I don't know and I'm not up on canon like a lot of people are. I have to say the only thing I don't like about Wodehouse stories is his occasional use of that awful servile dialect when he has Jeeves or Bertie talk to black people. There's that bit about when Jeeves gave away Bertie's purple socks that comes to mind. But then again, many, many writers did the same thing in that era. I don't think that sort of writing should be judged by today's standards, and it doesn't detract from the delight of Wodehouse's world.

[identity profile] meleth.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree, and feel like an unfortunate splash of cold water falls on this plot bunny in the form of the fact that Jeeves, bless his heart, is hidebound, reactionary, and a part of a strict hierarchy. I feel like there's a significant likelihood that he wouldn't even consider engaging in a relationship of any sort with a black liftman.

[identity profile] storyfan.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I think as a plot bunny for strict cannon it might not work. However, I think if we're considering the television characters, it might be different. They are both very attractive in their roles, and the lift attendant does not appear to feel inferior in any way. Actually, when they're trying to get Wilmott back into the apartment, the lift attendant actually seems to have a slightly superior attitude. Those scenes were fun to watch.

[identity profile] shiplizard.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone above mentioned Rocky Todd-- a natury poet type, immensely likely to be liberal and above that class nonsense, don't you think?

[identity profile] storyfan.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. I can see it. I would like to see it. Someone should write it. Now.

[identity profile] random-nexus.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And I, again, agree.
Enthusiastically.
Is anyone writing on this yet?
;p
ext_24392: (Haha No)

[identity profile] random-nexus.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I abhor the whole 'black dialect' thing, myself, but history is history and I've read that, on MANY occasions, black servants - in particular - were at one point EXPECTED to talk in that servile patois and if they didn't they were seen as acting 'above their station', though this was FAR FAR more so in the US, if memory serves. I'm woefully poorly informed on a lot of history (I tend to get really huffy and cheesed over things that happened generations ago, so I tend not to retain the things that peeved me), but I THINK the UK relaxed on the equality thing sooner than the US. Please, correct me if I'm wrong here.

SO, my point here (yes, had one, just a moment ago, aha!) I could see the elevator chap talking the way he's 'expected' to and then breaking character in an intimate moment, which might work quite well in a little ficcish fun.

You're probably right about this. Many famous black Americans well into the 1940s and 1950s (being able to afford this was key) moved to England and to France and other parts of Europe to escape the racism so prevalent here. I don't know about the 'acting above their station,' part, but I imagine it could be true. I've never read anything about that.

[identity profile] notchka88.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I read all three of the story collections relatively recently and I don't recall a dinner. It my just be my fuzzy memory and I don't have the books on hand to check.

I agree with storyfan, the language isn't exactly appropriate, but those were the times I guess.

I probably invented it when I started writing something I never finished. Either that or it was in some fic I read a million years ago.

[identity profile] lawnnun.livejournal.com 2009-05-03 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I could easily see Jeeves giving him head along with the purple socks. I mean, why not? XD

Er... I was going to say 'yes, you ARE the only person', only you're clearly... not.

Like some others, I think I prefer him to be a guy who sees all the comings and goings and to be 'onto' Bertie and Jeeves. He strikes me as an indulgent man who nevertheless has a certain moral code, perhaps grounded in certain religious views.

Loved that scene when Bertie was dragging drunk Motty home:

CONEYBEAR: Sure is kinda late to be coming home, sir.
BERTIE: Well, you know how it is.
CONEYBEAR: No sir, I don't, Mr. Wooster. Praise be, I don't.

He is a super-goood-looking guy, though. That I agree with wholeheartedly.
