Classic Wodehouse Illustrations, Part 9: "Jeeves and the Unbidden Guest"

Hi, I'm back! Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.

I'm going to be posting more fic soon, but first I have another crop of illustrations to share.

This story was illustrated by Alfred Leete in The Strand, and it was published around the same time in The Saturday Evening Post with illustrations by none other than Henry Raleigh. Let's start with Leete:

Disturbing1

Augh! Well, that's . . . both awesome and disconcerting.

Meanwhile, one of my favorite Raleigh illustrations ever:

Jeeves: dog whisperer.
It's kind of hard to tell for sure, but I don't think I see any signs of either monocle or mustache on Bertie! Jeeves isn't quite as hot as he would be in Raleigh's later work, but he's not bad. There is something a little odd going on with his hairline, though.

What the hell are you wearing, Bertie?
Leete's Bertie looks oddly haggard. Motty is just plain plug ugly.

Both Raleigh and Leete had to show the table dancing:

Party!
Woo!

Interesting variation in the captions there.

Bustle-Wearin' Bouncer!Jeeves delivers the bad news to Ugly Bertie:

hurr
And finally, another Raleigh. Look closely -- there is a stealth Jeeves in the background!

Sneaky, sneaky!

Other entries:
"Comrade Bingo"
"Bertie Changes His Mind"
"Leave It to Jeeves"
Right Ho, Jeeves
"The Delayed Exit of Claude and Eustace"
"Aunt Agatha Takes the Count"
"Jeeves in the Springtime"
"Scoring Off Jeeves" and "Sir Roderick Comes to Lunch"
