Jeeves and Wooster and Greek Mythology.

A late night conversation about some unusually pretty boy being a 'Ganymede', or, a male that trumps most people's sexuality, lead to an interesting revelation.

You see, Zeus was an active pursuer of the ladies, despite how Greek he was. But then there was Ganymede. And he went unf.

And, more importantly, he KEPT HIM.

And then my lovely companion mentioned how 'Junior Ganymede' always made her giggle for that reason. I started to giggle along, but then....

O_O

BERTIE IS ZEUS.

PLUM JUST TOOK THE SEX OUT.

Bertie is Zeus, Jeeves is Ganymede, Agatha is Hera, Bingo is Apollo(or possibly Eros), Honoria is Artemis, Florence is Athena, Madeline is Aphrodite, Spode is Ares, and Gussie is Hephaestus.

We might have made the whole Parthenon pantheon(edit,ty!), but I saw something shiny.

DISCUSS. MAKE TOGA FANART.

EDIT: I'm keeping 'toga' because everyone knows what it is and it's fun to chant.

Two little nitpicks.

1. The word you want is 'pantheon', I believe.

2. Togas are Roman, not Greek. The Greek gods faff about in chitons and exomis...es.

Also--I totally noticed the Jr Ganymedes thing too, but I never thought to parallel everyone else! Bingo really is Apollo, lol.

Madeline strikes me more as Persephone, or maybe Psyche. Dahlia is totally Artemis, though, hunter that she is. Claude and Eustace are totally Hermes and Eros (both of those boys are tricksters).

Stiffy is totally Eris. Honoria is young, so she should be one of the lesser goddesses, not one of the 'Big Twelve' as I call them. I could make a case for Dahlia being 'boys ew', but more in the sense that she's one of the boys. She has a lot of Zeus-like traits, but those seem to be Woostery traits. In any case, Dahlia's character is more closely associated with hunting, than Honoria.

Hephaestus isn't nerdy or anti-social--he's just disliked because he's crippled, and he's shy besides. Also, Aphrodite was always cheating on him with Ares (and everyone else), so Madeline is definitely not tarty enough to be Aphrodite. She's definitely one of the dreamy goddesses that pines after some guy she doesn't even know--though she's not scarily desperate enough to be Salmakis.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] blackletter, what do you think? (He's a Classicist, you know)

Nice parallel, since Dahlia is so big on the hunting.

lol, so if Madeline is Persephone, does that make Spode Hades? And, if so, I think I can understand Bertie's fear. :D

Was he, really? I don't remember that, actually, lol. I was only thinking of what I read on Encyclopedia Mythica, which says of Hades: "Of all the gods, Hades is the one who is liked the least and even the gods themselves have an aversion of him."

lol, which kind of makes me think of Spode. Or possibly Stilton Cheesewright, lol.

lmao!!! That's hilarious! lol, and it must be tricky when no one even wants to say your name. I mean, I suppose it would be great if you wanted to scare the mortals, but it would probably be brutal on your social life. His abduction of Persephone totally makes sense now. lol, but I still say that Spode could fit that mold. ;)

I have no idea. I haven't read any of the stories with Spode in them. Besides, Madeline is more like Psyche or Echo. Persephone just also fits. Pre-Hades Persephone, that is.
