Jeeves & Wooster Live

Just got an email advertising this and thought it might be of interest here - apologies if it's been discussed before but I've not been around for a while :)

What do you think of the casting? Not sure I'm mad about the choice of Bertie...

It looks rather fun! I don't think either of them are 'quite' right, but then no one will ever be quite right, as far as I'm concerned. (I'm a book fan rather than a fan of the telly series.)

I know I would always be comparing someone to Hugh Laurie, but I don't think that would stop me from watching it, or in fact any production of a Jeeves and Wooster play I could get to, and doing my best to be open minded about the actors. (I would prefer it be a production done with gay subtext, of course!) Almost anyone can play any part if they throw themselves into it. I know the theater I used to work at (run by a distant cousin) did a production of Man of La Mancha and cast a rather tall, thin Maine guy to play Sancho Panza, and the audience ate him up with a spoon.

Ooh, wish I could go to that! As for this Bertie, I'd have to see him in action to judge. He doesn't really look much like my mental picture of Bertie, but then, neither does Hugh Laurie . . .

Oh, cruel world, why don't I have a teleporter to SOMEWHERE in England? :( I keep asking for one and Santa never delivers!

I totally agree with you. The problem for me is that so much depends on the rapport and the ability of the two actors to let the other share the stage...Fry and Laurie already worked together really well.

Personally, I would have loved to see Alan Rickman as Jeeves and Hugh Grant as Bertie...alas they are a bit long in the tooth for that at the current juncture.

I think it would be marvelous to see live, and hopefully done well. Bertie is always sort of blonde in my head for some reason, so none of them have looked right to me, even if Hugh Laurie did a fantastic job with the role.
