Or if you were a sufficiently feminine man that you weren't threatening ideas of masculinity (i.e. it's okay for a girly man to take on a woman's role, but not a manly man)?

I'm glad the sodomy laws weren't enforced much. The penalty was much stronger in America than in the UK, wasn't it?
