A P. G. Wodehouse Coverage

OMG, you guys, this is so cool: A P. G. Wodehouse Coverage.

It's a fairly exhaustive collection of covers for P. G. Wodehouse books. The layout is a little confusing, but if you scroll down and click on any of the covers shown on the main page, it will take you to a page with all the covers associated with that particular book. If only there were some bigger images available!

The covers range from baffling to beautiful to fairly hideous. It's an awesome selection of different styles and interpretations of the characters. (I'm also amused that the German title of My Man Jeeves seems to translate roughly to "Jeeves does it all." Indeed!)

ETA: It might actually be easier to navigate via the list of countries, because then you get a list of titles. Either way, it's confusing.

A little confusing, but fascinating too!!

Some of those covers...really, really dreadful! But quite a few are splendid!!

Thanks so much for sharing this!!

This is great! Wow, those covers really range from perfection to, uh, this:

But I love this one:

What's the deal with the elderly, ugly Jeeves on these book covers? I mean, seriously? Especially the Norwegian ones... those are awful.

How about "stuck in a black-and-white horror movie" Bertie (? I guess?)?

"Help . . . meeeee . . ."

"Bring me the head of John the Baptist, Jeeves."

"Here it is, sir."

"Good heavens. I wasn't expecting him to look quite so chipper about his decapitation, somehow."

I've spent hours here, it never gets old! I love the really crazy ones where you try and try to connect it to a story and come up blank.

[identity profile] cosmosmariner.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear lord, yes, that first one! He looks like an escapee from a prison camp. Although I can't imagine that being Bertie, he's not fair enough. And I can't imagine it being Jeeves, he's not valet enough. LOL That's "Thank You Jeeves" right? Perhaps that's supposed to be Chuffy?

You know how Kate Beaton (http://harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=279) makes up stories to match the cover of Nancy Drew novels? We should totally do that. Like, once a week someone posts a cover and then everyone replies with a theory of what on earth is going on.

Holy hell--believe it or not, I somehow overlooked the giant spotted bow-tie!! I think because my brain could not accept what it was seeing.

I cannot stop laughing at it now that I see it.

There are some pretty decent covers there, but most of them are just...completely bizarre and/or hideous. A number of them have Jeeves wearing things he wouldn't be caught dead in. Mutton chops? Really? Or an orange & yellow dressing gown?

I do love the UK cover of "Ring for Jeeves" (http://axxc.nl/pgw/boe/ring.htm) - 3rd row, 2nd picture. XD

[identity profile] cosmosmariner.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
*cough, cough, snort*

That's the kind of cover I need for my fanfiction. When I actually get the nerve to post it. LOL

*reads the blurb*

*diiiiiies*

Glorious! How about this one?

Bertie and Chuffy (?) doing . . . something.

It looks kind of like he's wearing blue eye shadow, too. Did he decide to become a clown?

Oh dear God. On an American cover for "The Inimitable Jeeves" (http://axxc.nl/pgw/boe/inim.htm) (4th row from the bottom, 2nd picture) Jeeves looks like Poirot. :O

Way cool! I love the Psmith in the City covers.

He's finally found a job . . . Won't Lady Glossop be pleased? *pictures Lady and Sir Roderick Glossop forbidding Honoria to even SPEAK to That Wooster Fellow ever again*

There are simply not enough gay novels in this world.

[identity profile] storyfan.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
I say!

[identity profile] ladymoondancer.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
OMG.

Okay, seriously, some lazy publisher had to have just snagged a Poirot picture from a different book, right?

[identity profile] storyfan.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Bring me the head of John the Baptist, Jeeves."

"Here it is, sir."

"Good heavens. I wasn't expecting him to look quite so chipper about his decapitation, somehow."

Oh, my stars, I laughed so hard at this.

[identity profile] storyfan.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm all for it.

[identity profile] ladymoondancer.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's true!

[identity profile] durffy.livejournal.com 2011-12-13 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, good one!!

I almost snorted mashed potatoes up my nose, I was laughing so hard!!

Someone should make some icons of these!!

Some of these would be perfect for ebook covers, on a Nook or Kindle.
