I meant to post this last year, but I missed the day. 8'D It's a love letter to Jeeves in Latin I wrote for a project last year, and I hope everything turned out ok, because I a) only knew so much Latin last year and b) am terribly bad at editing my self. x)

Enjoy, and if anyone can tell me what I said you'll receive internet-cookies by the basketful! Happy Valentines Day all! <3

O Jeevus!
Tues nobilissimus omnium
Nihil extinguet meum amorem tibi
Quod habes formam gratam
Monstaveras magnos modos
Et scis omnes
Habes semper consilium paratum
Accipebas poenam sed nunc accipis laudaris
Cepistis amorm muem
Cum amore,
Bertie

Oh my gosh this is awesome!! I take Latin and I might actually be able to understnad this. Let's see is it( very, very, VERY roughly) something like:

O! Jeeves
You most famous of all
No one can extinguish my love for you
Because you have a graceful form,
you show the best(great)manner
and you know all.
You always have a plan prepared,
you took my love.

With love,
Bertie

Glad to know there's a fellow Latin student in the comm;)

Ohhhh, I fear my Catholic upbringing has been mostly forgotten and foregone but I'll give it a go:

O Jeeves!
You of noble everything
I will never stop loving you
You who performs your wonders
in such mysterious ways [Oh, I do hope I'm right or I'll sound like an ass!]
And knowing all
Be always something something
Accept this poem if you never accept my praise [much a shot in the dark I fear]
Keeping love everlasting.

With Love,
Bertie

[I'm sure your real version is much, much better. XD]

Nom nom noooooom!

Yes, I'm afraid my V-day card that says "be always something something" wouldn't be a bestseller. :3

I'm glad to see the translations. My Latin skilz are minimal. And Blackletter is going to love this.

Yay Latin!

O Jeeves!
You are the most noble of all
Nothing will extinguish my love for you
because you have a beloved form
You had demonstrated many methods
And you know all [should this be "omnia" neuter plural "all things"?]
You always have a plan prepared
You were receiving the punishment [or is this "poemam?"--poem?] but now you receive [missing word?] you are praised [or is this "accipis laudis" --> you receive praise]
You [singular "cepisti?"] seized my love. [typo? amorem meum]

With love,
Bertie

Sorry for going all brackety; I teach Latin. Therefore I love this poem to death! But also compulsively mention where things look a bit off

I thought poenam/poemam looked like a typo, but as fandom can be a pretty kinky place I wasn't quite sure.

You're welcome! Editing Latin is pretty much all I'm good for, so I'm always happy to exercise my Latin skillz and thereby feel useful.

I adore this--the whole idea is utterly charming, and so extraordinarily apt for the characters!

And thank goodness for [livejournal.com profile] blackletter, as I have no Latin, sadly, and could pick out only bits and pieces. But what fun!

I thought I had blocked out all Latin stuff, but apparently I didn't! Lovely poem (am not attempting to translate, other people are way better at it it seems but I roughly understood from first read AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY :D )

Apparently despite my several years of Latin, I was only able to stumble through the barest hint of what this meant... but I did enjoy reading all the different translations! As a linguist, I greatly enjoy seeing non-English contributions to the comm. Gratias tibi ago (or some such)!

Reintroduced me to something that has only brought me suffering, and make me love it again! (quite a feat, I assure you! :D)

The only latin I know is Law vocab. Which isn't given to much romance. But this is lovely (:
