(no subject)

Bicky, Biffy, Chuffy, Gussie, Tuppy, Bingo, Stinker, Catsmeat, Oofy, Stiffy, Corky, Rocky...

Fabulous nicknames.

If you had a Woosterverse nickname -- based on your REAL name more or less, mind you, not your online handle, unless there's a good reason it should be something else -- what do you figure it would be?

I imagine I'd end up Monty, for Monica (I've heard the name shortened to that before). My online name (Venna), which I AM called offline, has a good solid reason behind it, but it doesn't have the ring of a Wooster nickname. I could see maybe Venny, though. A lot of them are based on last names but I'm afraid MY last name is already taken -- it was evidently Oscar Wilde's nickname at Oxford. *snickers* If I were more of a horse person I could see me getting named Filly, for my confirmation-name Felicity, but I detest horses. Which may in itself be a reason to get a nickname like that, actually...

My friends call me Tilly -- shortening of my last name, actually. I thought it sounded rather Wodehousian. I've also been occasionally called Tills and Tilly-hat. o_O My first name is Sarah...too short for nicknames.

My first name has many different variables, few of which I like. I've always thought it'd be fun to be Catsmeat Potter-Pirbright, if I lived in Wodehouse land.

What am I saying? Wooster, Wooster always! ;D

A lot of people try to call me DoDo. I only ever let JoJo call me that. (A jojo, for the uninitiated, is rather like an enormous french fry. It's a quarter of a potato of a long potato, spiced and baked.)

Dory is another possibility.

And then off my last name... Swampy, Boggy, Fenny, maybe?

My first name is already ending in a long e sound, so you don't get much from that (pronounced kay-lee).

My last name even more so. It's just not Wodehousian material! *woe*

My nickname, though, taken from my net alias, is what about 95% of my friends call me anyway. So there's quite a few... Kas/Kaz, Kassy/Kazzy, Sass. Hell, I've even got a Sassafras.

I have one. It's Feather (rhymes with Heather), though no-one's used it since I was six. My family are evil for girls - flower names (Rose, Lily, Poppy, Flora) are bloody difficult to get nicknames out of, and they wouldn't look out of place in Woodhouse anyway.

can anyone think of a wodehouse nickname for dominic? :/ because i can't.

Hmm. Well, my last name is Crowe. So Crowe = Crow, Crows = Corvids...Corvy. My Wodehouse nickname would be Corvy. Corvy Crowe.

[identity profile] doomynic.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
that is such a great name :D

Thanks! I was rather proud.

I love your icon! I really really want to see Wilde and I haven't yet. It's not in my local library and the big library in Iowa City won't loan it out...I may just have to buy it!

Well, if you talk to the LotR RPSers, you could be "Dommie". Not that it's very Woosterian, but it is strangely amusing.

My name is, most unfortunately, Al (I say unfortunate because it's no good to have a name that screams "Overworked, underpaid bearded automobile mechanic!" if you're female), so no-go there. But my last names have possibilities. Revolting ones, but they're there. In which case it'd probably be something like "Perky".

Perky Perkins? Dear lord.

Who needs Wodehouse? My last name is pronounced "meal," as in breakfast, dinner, etc. So I've been called Oatsy, for Oatmeal (though I suppose that'd actually be Porridge in Wodehouseland), Happy Meal, One of my brothers was called "corny" for cornmeal. Another brother, the smallest in the family, was called Lunch.

[identity profile] bookwibble.livejournal.com 2005-06-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
My first name ends in "a," but I could picture Wodehouse taking that off and adding a "y" to it.

You've had it longer than me [livejournal.com profile] halfwest, and Mr. Wilde has had it longer than the both of us put together (but I think it has now entered the public domain *chuckles*). I think we can both coexist peacefully as long as we keep spelling it differently. ;P

thats the first thing I thought of!
It would be pronounced to sound a bit in the direction of 'Dummy' though. Not sure if you like that:(

shell-a-bell

my manager is very southern. The nicknames get just as silly :)

Eh, I'm just Gilly wherever I go, really, which might work for Wodehouse. But that's my internet handle, and I'm not sure if it really counts...

Ehr... based on my real name... I don't think you really can deform my first name all that well in English (it works in Dutch)...

My last name I'd say Bossie, but that'd just make me look like a cow.

We'll stick to Gilly.

[identity profile] jsvodalarius.livejournal.com 2005-06-05 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Occasionally I get called Becky, even though I'm not a big fan of that. Um, my last name isn't dreadfully conducive to nicknames, and the only thing one can get out of my middle name (Ardene) is "Sardine."

If we can go off screen names too, though, I've got a good one - sometimes I like to call myself Vodie.

This doesn't exactly answer the question, but I've often said that if I were ever to con my way into being Pope, I'd change my name to Wheezy Whistlebottom.

Then I'd come out as a semi-secular Jewish gal and append -stein onto the end of that.
