Jeeves in the Country

I'm in the process of watching episode four of season two of Jeeves and Wooster. The episode is titled Jeeves In The Country. During a certain talk, which I will put under a cut in case it counts as spoilers, it struck me that it sounded like they could be covertly talking about their own relationship. XD Here it is!


B: He's potty about her!
J: I am, of course, aware that his lordship is experiencing a sentiment deeper and warmer than that of ordinary friendship for the young lady, sir.
B: Yes, and she has specifically confessed herself to being dippy about him. But she's upset, the poor fish. She detects the lovelight in his eyes. She's all for it. What worries her is he doesn't do anything about it.
J: A not uncommon dilemma, sir.
B: What's it all about, Jeeves? I mean, he loves her, she loves him, so what's the snag?
J: His lordship is a gentleman of scruple, sir. He feels that, being of straightened means himself, he has not the right to propose to a young lady as wealthy as Miss Stoker.

They could be talking about themselves! XD Here is my slightly tweaked version.

B: I'm potty about you!
J: I am, of course, aware that I am experiencing a sentiment deeper and warmer than that of ordinary friendship for you, sir.
B: Yes, and I've specifically confessed myself to being dippy about you. But I'm upset. I detect the lovelight in your eyes. I'm all for it. What worries me is you don't do anything about it.
J: A not uncommon dilemma, sir.
B: What's it all about, Jeeves? I mean, you love me, I love you, so what's the snag?
J: I am a gentleman of scruple, sir. I feel that, being of straightened means myself, I have not the right to propose to a young man as wealthy as you.

I love the ending of that SO much! "Neither Lord Chuffnell nor Mr Stoker find themselves quite able to measure up to the required standards." OK, I have a feeling I butchered that line, but Bertie looks so happy when he figures out what Jeeves means! Guh. :) They're in love.

Yes, yes they are. And indeed, "Jeeves in the Country" is the slashiest episode EVAR. I love how even though Jeeves is supposed to be working for Chuffy and/or Stoker, he spends all his time clandestinely meeting up with Bertie, strolling along the esplanade with him, discussing (most indiscreetly!) his new employers' personal lives with him, etc. -- not at all like an ex-employee, but like a lover friend and equal.

And then of course there's the romantic violin theme at the end, for the tea/reunion scene.

I remember that line, I really liked it! "Bertie, that's Jeeves' way f professing his undying love to you!" XD
