If You Listen To An Audio Book, Make It This One

There's several version of the J&W novels in audio book form, but Jonathan Cecil reads them best, IMHO. He's got the voices down perfectly.

And I included a zipped version of "Carry On Jeeves", which consists of 10 short stories, the last one being from Jeeves's POV rather than Bertie's, which is a really interesting perspective.

Snagging. Thanks! I haven't heard Mr. Cecil's version yet, but Martin Jarvis also reads extraordinarily well. As does Simon Callow, but he can't read anything poorly.

I have the most boring summer job imaginable, so audio books are my favourite things right now. Thank you! :D

I couldn't agree more. Don't let those appalling cover illustrations fool you.

I think when I'm writing Jooster, I have to picture characters who vaguely resemble Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, and I definitely hear their voices. But when you just want to be entertained by superb reading, Jonathan Cecil is the tops. He does awesome voices. His Roderick Glossop voice had me doubled up with laughter. It's astonishing to me when one person can do such a variety of voices.

His Jeeves voice can vary a little bit, but on the whole, it has a nice, quiet, understanding and soothing tone - it doesn't drone or force itself on you.

My favourite so far is his reading of the Yule Tide Spirit - the one where Bertie is attempting to woo Bobbie Wickham and Jeeves practically snaps at him. The little scene near the end when Bertie is furious at Jeeves for not telling him that Tuppy and Sir Roderick switched rooms, causing him to puncture the hot water bottle of the wrong person is just lovely.

Jonathan Cecil is by far my favourite Jooster reader. ♥

I've been collecting the Jonathan Cecil audio books...from samples I've heard of other readers I like Cecil's versions the best. But I agree with [livejournal.com profile] bertiebwriting, the cover illustrations are appalling!

Thank you, I look forward to listening to these.

Just sorta off-topic mention, really: You write Jooster wonderfully.

They tend to make Jeeves look 60 and chubby. And grey-haired. I hate that!

I just had a quick listen to your little snippet, and gosh, that is lovely. You want to grab Bertie and shake him. Bless his heart.

I know, it's so annoying! Balding, as well.

Fantastic! And now I can tell my English Intonation teacher that I've found something to listen to and imitate for practice :D

Thanks so much for the download! I've listened to a couple of the BBC radio productions, but I'd never heard (or heard of!) any of the Jonathan Cecil readings. These are lovely. <3
